Reads as an Old Harequin Presents from the past...

I did not like this story very much and I am someone who LOVES a good Billionaire Pregnancy romance story . Unfortunately this felt so very wrong because of how the hero treated the heroine until the very end and that didn’t make up for the first 80 % of the book.

Kate Burrows has a huge love crush on her womanizing boss Aleksei Aleksanou for a long time; Kate had decided it was better for her to leave-to quit and travel the world in order to get over her boss. Prior to leaving she has an intimate date with Aleksei that ends up with them hooking up. Kate ends up going to Greece and spends her entire vacation sick and after a run-in with a thief and a subsequent trip to the hospital, Kate learns she's pregnant. Aleksei is on the island visiting family and sees Kate and helps her out of a jam roughly about the same time. They both discover she's pregnant about the same time but in different ways. He's very happy about it even before she knows that he knows. So Alesksei proposes marriage and Kate accepts. Going from business associates to marriage partners is hard but they do it. Then by the end, Aleksei does admit he has feelings for her. But it was a sort of soft book, no real passion. They got married because she was pregnant. I guess I was looking for the passion, the chemistry, the electricity and it was missing here. Not really a good book and it was not impressive in that sense. The Heroine did not really come off as strong til the every end and the Hero was harsh and cold feeling and I didn’t get that was warm at all. Usually the Hero has some warmth to him but I didn’t get a feeling of passion/warmth to this character.

Superb writing; an excellent read!

Kate Burrows has been Aleksei Aleksanou’s assistant for a couple of years, and they are attracted to each other, but they are both dedicated professionals, so they never acted on their attraction. It’s taking its toll on Kate, so she hands in her resignation because she fears she’ll succumb and her heart will be broken; she’s been burned before and Aleksei is a known playboy. She will be travelling for 3 months, and going to Greece, to Aleksei’s native island Naxea, because he has told her so much about it. However on her last day on the job, Aleksei takes Kate out to dinner, and Kates gets plastered and when she starts making a fool of herself, Aleksei takes her home. And nothing much happens, apart from Kate seeing him naked when he comes out of the shower. But during her drunken bout, she had forgotten her shoes and when Aleksei brings them back to her, that’s when sex happens. They simply cannot resist any longer, but in the heat of the moment they forgot to use any sort of protection, and Kate is pregnant.

What impressed me the most, and from the very beginning, is Ms. Walsh’s magnificent prose; what a splendid writer! A WIFE IN EVERY SENSE is so easy to read, both the corporate world and Greece seem real. Kate and Aleksei are very engaging and believable characters, and even though Aleksei is commitment-phobe, he is honest about it, and yet he is looking forward to having a family one day. The pregnancy issue is perfectly plausible, and I’m not easy to convince when it comes to that kind of trope. Ms. Walsh succeeds where many authors, in my opinion, fail: A WIFE IN EVERY SENSE features elements that I often find difficult to digest in contemporary romance, but this extremely gifted author makes everything work perfectly, because the characters are so well-drawn, the plot is air-tight, Kate and Aleksei are honest with each other, and the chemistry they share feels real. Nothing feels convoluted, there are no misunderstandings; everything is perfectly paced, and I simply fell for both Kate and Aleksei. I will definitely be looking forward to future books from this author because I definitely loved A WIFE IN EVERY SENSE, and Joanne Walsh is a tremendous writer! A very pleasant surprise and an excellent read!

an interesting and enjoyable novel!

A beautifully written story about two very different people falling in love gradually. I loved reading it, Story moved very smoothly and there were many interesting and romantic moments between Kate and Aleksei. Their sad pasts kept them at distance from each other but now they shared a future and for that reason they were willing to take a leap of faith, trying to built a relationship based on mutual respect and understanding even if not love. But soon enough Kate felt herself falling head-over-heals in love with him. And it becomes more and more difficult to stay with him when it's clear that he didn't return her love..

The best thing about this story was how they both dealt with their trust issues and still never let each other down. It portrays their struggles as a couple and give life to the story. Characters are also well-developed. Ending was simply epic, all in all a good book which, in my opinion, every romance lover will enjoy reading.

Wealthy Barber Changed My Life

I read this book when I was about 30 years old, just getting established in a good career. It had a huge impact on how I think about money, insurance, and savings. I adopted the common sense approaches in the book, and now, 20 years later, I'm very well off financially. I don't think I'd be where I am today if I hadn't established those healthy patterns when I was 30.

This book is an easy read for anyone who is willing to take an initial interest in their financial picture. It is straight forward, easy to read and very uncomplicated. Many people I know get all confused about financial matters. This book will not confuse you, rather, it will entertain you and get you started along the lines of financial planning. I bought 4 copies so I can lend them out to my friends!!!

Great for the science oriented child, even adults!

My 11 year old loves all things science. When I first purchased the Usborne Illustrated Dictionary of Physics book, however, he tried reading it (he was 9.5 then) and didn't understand much of what he was reading. It went in the bookshelf for a while. Well, fast forward a year, it's now his favorite book. He even took it with him to his church youth camp for "casual reading" (yes, that's the type of kid he is!). LOL. The other kids didn't believe him when he said he's reading it for fun. The Usborne Illustrated Dictionary of Science is basically a compilation of the Physics, Chemistry, and Biology dictionaries. I love these books because they're concise, yet contain sufficient information to give a thorough explanation for a kid who loves science. The illustrations are awesome to help those who are visually oriented get a better understanding of the concepts.

My son found it very entertaining.

My son is 12 and had to read this as a required book for his classical curriculum. He was hesitant to read it because he assumed classical books meant Boring! He read it in one night and couldn't wait to tell me all about it the next day. It is a wonderful story based on a real man, Nathaniel Bowditch who loved school, especially mathematics. The boy who once complained about math hasn't uttered one complaint since reading this book.

This was bought as a replacement copy, since my family wore out our old copy. This is a book that I reread every few years. Well written, historically relevant, and appealing to upper elementary school ages and up. An amazing, classically written story.

A zookeeper narrates the story of how there came to be graves at the zoo: when Tokyo was showered with bombs during the bleak days of World War II, the authorities feared that if the zoo were destroyed, the animals might accidentally be freed and wreak havoc on the city. So they decided that all the zoo animals would be killed. But the elephants wouldn't eat the poisonous food they were offered, and the needles in the syringes containing poison broke before they could penetrate the elephants' rough skin. So the elephants were starved to death, a slow and painful process watched by the zookeepers who loved them. An upsetting story for children or adults, this powerfully conveys the deadly side effects of war. Lewin's watercolors show the massive gray bodies in their state of decline; it is impossible not to appreciate the heartbreak of the animals' plight. But this is a book that provokes questions about the nature of death and dying (children may read into this that some may be killed for the greater good of all), and so should be chosen with care. All ages.

Grade 3-8 In an unnamed war, Tokyo was being bombed ``day and night.'' The Army commands that the dangerous animals in the Tokyo Zoo be poisoned so that they might not escape in the event of a direct hit (witness a double-page spread of a dead tiger, a bear, a lion, and a large snake). When it is the elephant's turn to die, he refuses to eat food which has been poisoned and his skin is too thick to take an injection of poison, so the decision is made to starve him to death. Two more elephants must follow, and the real tension produced in the story is the pathos surrounding the torturously slow death of these big pets by depriving them of all food and water. No punches are pulled: these dying elephants use some of their last strength to perform a trick for which they have been customarily rewarded with food and water. They die, horribly, and are mourned by the zookeepers who ``raised their fists to the sky and implored `Stop the war! Stop the war! Stop all wars!' '' Lewin's lustrous watercolors soften the hard edges of the story: his backgrounds appear as if washed with tears. This is an odd choice for a children's book. Indeed, the High Moral Purpose here must be interpreted as having more to do with the heartlessness of the zoo keepers than the cruelty of war. Yet, to follow logically, it would seem spurious for a writer to suggest that children ``realize the human ideal'' so that elephants will never go hungry again. And it is also somehow churlish to implicate children in the stupidities of adults.
