Simple introduction to Voodoo terms.

This book is simply a little tract on voodoo beliefs and common terms. No real applicable knowledge of ritual or religion is handed to the reader, but if you have heard a voodoo term and have no idea what it is, this would be a handy book to have. There are lists of the supposed power of certain stones, animal remains, and sundry dubious substances. While it does serve as a light-read and cursory probe into the subject, it is by no means the "Voodoo Handbook of Cult Secrets" the title would have you believe.

There are no secrets revealed here, so please do not let the title get you. Simply it is a very thin booklet of translations of words used in Voodoo, as well as the names of the Lwas, the Might Spirits of Voodoo. Starting from the renowned Black-Scholes-Merton formulation of option pricing model, readers are guided through the text on the new advances on the state-of-the-art derivative pricing models and interest rate models. Both analytic techniques and numerical methods for solving various types of derivative pricing models are emphasized. The second edition presents a substantial revision of the first edition. The continuous-time martingale pricing theory is motivated through analysis of the underlying financial economics principles within a discrete-time framework. A large collection of closed-form formulas of various forms of exotic equity and fixed income derivatives are documented. The most recent research results and methodologies are made accessible to readers through the extensive set of exercises at the end of each chapter. Yue-Kuen Kwok is Professor of Mathematics at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology. He is the author of over 80 research papers and several books, including Applied Complex Variables. The cherry of this book is its well-thought out exercises

This is a well-written textbook for beginners in financial derivatives. It is very comprehensive as it covers various financial products. The main attraction of this book is its exercises. Many problems come from past academic papers. I benefit a lot from doing those drills.

MATHEMATICAL MODELS OF FINANCIAL DERIVATIVES

The goal of this book is to disseminate the knowledge of a very technical subject to a very wide range of audience, including finance professionals. The author did a respectable job in that regard. With some improvement in future revisions, this book seems to be one of the best introductionary texts on stochastic calculus.

Lucid and detailed introduction

This is a really lucid and detailed introduction to derivative pricing theory from the pde way of doing things. The author is an applied mathematician, of the fluid mechanics variety, and this should tell you right away what the drift of the presentation is like.
Some will argue that all of Wilmott's books are along exactly the same line, so why do we need another pde book? Given the amazing number of textbooks dedicated to the martingale approach, it is great to have yet another, fresh way of looking at the pde approach.
The derivations come with all the necessary technical details, the style is very down to earth, and to my mind original. There are many details that I personally haven't seen in any other textbook before, and there are plenty of what seem like very useful exercises.
I really like this book, and it was a pleasant surprise to see it in a local library.

This book changed my life!

I purchased this book on the recommendation of a friend in January 2010.
As a 36 year old, never married, recovering workaholic, it seemed to be right up my alley.

Wonderful Journal!

I have the paperback copy of this book and am ordering my second copy. My original is very worn. I have been using it for the last many years (nearly ten) to collect inspirational quotes in. I write one quote per day and it is nearly completed!
Now I am buying a second copy to transfer the old quotes into, change some around and so forth. I had been putting them in almost randomly, but I want to rewrite them to correlate better with the Goddess days that Diane cites.

Very good quality, a classic by this time. Many Goddesses and holidays are included on calendar and "moon month" dates. There is also a lot of space on each date to write in extra holidays that are meaningful to the owner of the book. Correspondences for the Goddesses are included, though not literally the same. Good for invocations, bringing significance to calendar dates. Excellent reference for when the internet is not available.

Success is simple!

Jon Godon does it again with The Carpenter

The Carpenter came along for me in a difficult time. I fell in love with the characters because they were so relatable. I can't put my finger on it, but when I got finished reading The Carpenter, I felt at peace that everything was going to be ok. The Christian underpinnings of his books leaves me with some sort of comfort that I know God has a plan for us and if I am just patient that it will all play out just as it is meant to be. In the meantime, I can use the strategies that Jon Gordon gives to help me in my journey to get through the difficulties because he makes them so easy to apply to your every day life. You can not go wrong reading this book. If you are going through anything personal or professional, it is in your best interest to read The Carpenter. My hope for you is that you will have the peace and comfort I was left with.

During my day job as a life coach, I'm always looking for books to recommend to my clients and subscribers. One of my go-to authors for books that can help change your perspective in this game called “life” is Jon Gordon.

I was super excited to be invited to read an early copy of his latest book, The Carpenter.

The Carpenter opens with Michael, awakening in a hospital. During an early morning run, his body simply gave out from the level of stress he’d been living under trying to nurture a growing family and new business. The man who tended him and got him to a hospital was a Carpenter. When Michael tracks him down to thank him, he ends up hiring him to build a bookshelf in their home.

Talking with the Carpenter during his time working on their project, Michael quickly learns that he is more than just a Carpenter; he is also a builder of lives, careers, people, and teams. As the Carpenter shares his wisdom, Michael attempts to save his business in the face of adversity, rejection, fear, and failure.

The lessons he learns along the way mirror the truths I regularly work with my clients.

Used this book only to study for the state exam and passed the first time. The state test I took was 50 opened book questions and 50 closed book. The 50 closed book questions where right on.

I purchased the book to help study for my Fire inspector I and II Test. after following the instructions I walked in to the exam with no fear and my score's show just that.
