About the Author
Joanna Macy is a scholar, eco-philosopher, teacher and activist who has developed an international following in over 30 years as a speaker and workshop leader on Buddhist philosophy and the deep ecology movement. She is the author of 8 books including the original Coming Back to Life and Widening Circles, and she has produced a 3-DVD set entitled The Work that Reconnects.

Molly Young Brown has been a trainer, workshop leader and consultant for many years. The author of three previous books on spirituality and healing the environment, including Growing Whole: Self-Realization on an Endangered Planet, she teaches at the Graduate School of Holistic Studies at John F. Kennedy University, and is based in the San Francisco Bay area.

Coming Back to Life is one of the important books of our time. The view of the world and these times that Joanna and Molly offer is clear and compelling. And for me it is spot on. The exercises and processes they share are powerful. They offer us guidance for working with groups of people to stand awake in this world and to step forward to make a difference. Lately I've been using this framework as a core part of my work in Japan -- both in the 3.11.11 disaster area as well as in other parts of the country. The space it opens up for people is incredible. It is a space where we can dance with our grief and celebrate our joy. It is the space in which we create the future we want.

Generally a good book

This book has a lot of basic stuff in it. It is rather easy to read and simplistic. It is a good introductory kinetics book, but be prepared to take advantage of other resources in order to accomplish your kinetics task. Not necessarily a great reference book for your graduate studies.

Kinetics for mature, sensible adults. Eye protection required.

As a medicinal chemist and enzymologist I found this book to be not to my taste. Very little attention is devoted to Michaelis Mentin and the steady state approximation. Nor is very much attention paid to the organic chemistry of the rate laws of organic reactions.

But I suppose this is necessary. This is a general text on kinetics and in that regard it is a very good one. For starters it's small, making it easy to carry. This compactness of size leads to a corollary compactness in language. It's brevity makes difficult concepts a little easier to understand because they aren't smothered in endless confusing verbiage and examples.

With the knowledge comprised here you should be prepared to utilize kinetics in almost all circumstances. However, for specific functions, such as enzymology, a more specific book on the subject is recommended.

Espenson's book is ok. It's a little difficult to read at times, but covers the basics fairly well. More references would be useful. A good introductory book.

Not for me

Might be good if I could get past page 8. I just can't get into it. Judging by the story line it seems like it's going to be like the line king but with deer. I guess this book would be appealing to someone who maybe likes to hunt and read. I might like it but hate reading something when I have to force it. Rather not be able to put it down

Fire Bringer

"Fire Bringer is a riveting story and deserves to be widely read..." These were the words of the author of the infamous Watership Down. I do not believe that they do this book justice.
Fire Bringer is the story of Rannoch, a young deer born to fulfill a destiny that he desperately tries to escape. He is the fawn born with an oak leaf birthmark on his forehead, the fawn destined to lead his kind (the Herla- -deer) out of the tyranny of their evil ruler, Sgorr. This book is a deep novel that manages to make acute, yet general ties to religion and compels you to the end. However, David Clement-Davis' writing style is crisp and imaginative- -it does not weigh the reader down so that they feel exhausted when finished reading. Instead, it makes them feel refreshed, and even awed, by the exquisite brilliance of this book.
I couldn't put Fire Bringer down- -it is packed with adventure, prophecies, action, myth, anthropomorphic genius, and even a hint of romance (though it is difficult to do so with deer, making Clement-Davis' writing all the more impressive). I highly suggest it to anyone in search of a good read. Like it or not, it will hold you to the very end- -for example, I loved the charm and dark foreboding of the beginning part, and was slightly disappointed to lose it as I moved on to Rannoch's more mature adulthood. However, I found the part one's light foreshadowing was only building up to a greater, more fantastical destiny. I was kept on the edge of my seat, and, despite age or genre preference, I'm sure it will keep anybody else lucky and smart enough to read it there, too.
I would also recommend David Clement-Davis' other, daker masterpiece, The Sight, to anybody who liked Fire Bringer. It centers, however, on wolves...

Caught up in Fiction

If you ever wanted something that was worth reading, then i suggest Fire Bringer by David Clement-Dawes. If you dont, then, well, i pity your imaginative soul and the survival of your imagination. Im in love, and its with this book. Books have that affect on me, and its rather pathetic, but i surrender to new worlds each and every time i pick one up. This is only the 2nd book that ive ever read thats touched me so much that im pissed off even when a least favorite character of mine dies, i literally threw it against the wall, and then retreived it and apologized for my unrashness. How can something fictional affect my real life? I think im wandering between reality and fiction, and im liking fiction alot more. Who knows, some day i may end up in the looney bin, but with my imagination, i will not be alone. No indeed.
The book. So much deception, and murder, and conspiracy, i love it to death. A prophecy that must be fufilled, or death will come to all the Herne. People, read this book, if you like to read. Even if you dont like to read. This book is a god amongst anthromorphic books, and im loving it.
